How this typing test is scored

A “word” is five characters, including spaces. Net WPM counts only characters that are still correct at the end of the clock. Accuracy is first-strike: fixing a typo does not erase the miss. Consistency measures how even your inter-key intervals were. That is the same convention described in the typing speed guide.

What is a good score?

Around 40 WPM is a commonly cited adult average. 60–80 WPM is strong for professional work. Pair any speed with 97%+ accuracy before chasing a higher number. A one-minute test usually reads hotter than a five-minute test; pick one duration and track that.

After you measure

A test is a thermometer. If you still look at the keys, start the touch typing lessons. If you already type and want the number to move, read how to type faster and drill your weak keys.
